Submission Guidelines
Please be aware that at this time WhiteFire Publishing is mainly soliciting novel-length work that can be marketed to a Christian audience. Cross-over books are fine, and we will consider any genre. All submissions will be reviewed based on merit, and authors can generally expect feedback that offers more than a simple “yes” or “no.” We will, however, require a complete submission packet before we can reply with feedback.
We always recommend having your book edited before submitting to WhiteFire or any other publisher. No matter how many times you read through your manuscript, there are always errors only a third-party will catch, and a professional is more likely to give you an unbiased view of your style and quality of writing. Editors can be found at various online writers’ resources as well as printed ones such as Writer’s Digest. WhiteFire staff editor Roseanna White also does freelance work (www.whitefireprinting.com/editing.htm).
We accept electronic submissions with attachments. If you send a hardcopy submission, please include a SASE. When submitting to WhiteFire, we would like to see the following:
A query letter with your contact information, some basic information on you as an author, a one to two paragraph summary of the book you will be submitting, and any other information you feel is relevant, such as expertise, experience, etc. Please include whether the complete manuscript is available, whether it is a stand-alone or an installment in a series, and an approximate word count.
A two page synopsis that gives us a reasonable view of what your book is about and where it goes; don’t be afraid to give away the ending, since we need to be assured of your ability to resolve a story before we take the time to read through a complete novel.
The first three chapters. Manuscripts should be formatted as follows:
All documents should be sent as a Word or WordPerfect attachment. Use default margins and font. (This is usually 1-1.25” margins and Times New Roman font, 12 point.)
Double space the text—this should never be done manually. Always use the tool under Format, Paragraph and select the correct option.
Never have an extra space between paragraphs unless it signifies a section break.
Insert a heading on each page with your name and the title of your book.
Pages should be numbered, either within the header or on the bottom of each page.
If you have any questions about how to do any of this or a specific inquiry
about formats not addressed above, please email us and we’ll attempt to resolve
the issues before you submit.
